A
wonderful piece of Americana, a beautiful applique` quilt top that was
designed to be a coverlet. Although this piece was never made into a quilt
with batting and backing, it now functions as a striking wall hanging.
The pattern appears to be a combined Princess Feather and Wig Rose interpretation,
made of unbleached muslin with red and green cotton applique` pieces.
The designs are embellished with embroidered chain stitch, single cotton
thread along the centers of the Princess Feathers and embroidery thread
for the delicate stems of the roses and edges of the larger open blooms.
Trailing vines run along the drop sides and opposing arched vines at the
head and foot pieces. Excellent condition. Color of green is more true
green than in the photo. Late 19th to early 20th century, probably Pennsylvania.
Approximately 8 feet in length by 6 feet 6 inches in width.
