97    An outstanding painted two piece corner cupboard, circa 1820-1840, probably Berks County, Pennsylvania. The upper section having a stepped multi level cornice trimmed in large match-stick edging over two blind doors with unusual iron spring hardware, flanked by inset panels with molding. The lower section having a stepped waist molding over a two paneled single door flanked by inset panels with molding, all on a molded base with stepped, flaring French bracket feet. Old varnish over bittersweet paint. Interior color appears to be completely original. Great condition with typical signs of use and wear. Replaced lower latch. Height 81 1/2 in. Takes 33 inch corner. child's bed

A child's bed with hinged sides to allow easy access but safety during the night from falls. This is not a crib and should not be used as such for infants or very young children, but a transitional bed for a child perhaps over the age of three. As the child grows both sides may be left down to be used as a standard child's bed. Made predominately of mahogany, and probably southern in origin, circa 1850-1880. Bed uses bed bolts but has indications it was made during the time when mechanization in furniture making had begun. Sheraton rope bedstead with testor, New England, circa 1800-1810. Having turned figured maple head< and foot posts with a slightly curved poplar

Having two D ends, each with a single drop leaf and swing leg and a center section with two drop leaves and two swing legs. The apron and tapered legs have double string inlay. Multiple part dinning tables were expensive and made to customers specifications and prices varied according to number of sections ordered, number of drop leaves, inlay and rule joints. Hitchcock settee

Back to Furniture Inventory

A rush seat Hitchcock settee, American, circa 1815-1830. Having a turned crest rail with three pillow-back sections over two horizontal slats terminating in scrolled arm rests, above a deep rush seat all on flaring turned legs ending in ball feet joined by a conforming stretcher. The finish is several layers of colored shellac applied over the previous old surface and the rush seat appears to be the original. The design follows the lines of pillow-back Hitchcock type chairs, however, it appears never to have been decorated but was instead finished with a colored shellac giving the appearance of a formal wood. Length to outside of arms is 73 1/2 inches. Seat height 18 inches. Maximum depth including top crest rail is 24 inches. Height to top of crest rail is 33 inches. The simple design has style and grace.

A rare China trade cane and bamboo settee, second half 19th century. The piece is original in materials and surface and in remarkably good condition, however, if it were to be used it should probably be restored. The styling and shape of the back are very graceful and the settee would be a spectacular centerpiece in a garden room or museum setting.
